MIGUEL ULLA

CONTRATENOR

1.JPG

The young Galician countertenor Miguel Ulla, trained thanks to great figures such as Gérard Lesne and Sonia Prina, is a singer specialized in historical performance, with a career marked by the recovery of little-explored repertoires. In his recording work, he rescues works by great but forgotten composers such as Leonardo Leo, Gaetano Veneziano, or Diego de las Muelas; in addition, he recovers, from a historicist perspective, numerous works from the Galician tradition whose roots go back to the Baroque period, but also to earlier times, such as traditional melodies.

"Miguel Ulla, an excellent Galician countertenor, treats us to a delightful recording of Handel’s secular cantatas. Although there is an innumerable number of fine recordings of this repertoire, the truth is that few singers dare to offer a minimalist version of these works: a single voice accompanied only by plucked strings (theorbo, archlute, and Baroque guitar used alternately). […] The result of this recording is an absolute rapport between Miguel Ulla and Fernando Reyes, full of musicality and fine textual diction".

Galiza Eterna:

Early Galician Music

In this recording, the Spanish alto Miguel Ulla offers a unique reading of these Cantatas, presenting the immaculate purity of his voice accompanied solely by the continuo of a theorbo, an archlute and a Baroque guitar performed by Fernando Reyes.
